Through the Crowds: Experiencing the Mahakumbh

In February 2025, an unexpected opportunity brought us to the Mahakumbh. Our elder daughter had planned to attend the Mahakumbh by train with her friends from Delhi, walking most of the way from the station to Prayag. For us, however, the long walk was not possible, and parts of the route were restricted due to health and age considerations.

It was then that we learned about a special arrangement for senior citizens through SilverGenie. In response, we flew to Delhi in mid-February 2025. At 4 a.m., SilverGenie’s car arrived to pick us up, with Kshitij as our caregiver, assisting us throughout the journey to Allahabad. Under the guidance of Kuhu Adhikary, our group set off from Allahabad towards Mahasangam in Prayag, traveling in three cars—each with its own caregiver to ensure comfort and safety for the seniors.

We reached Prayag around midnight and were accommodated in well-maintained tents along the banks of the Ganges. The tents offered all the comforts of a hotel—good food, walking arrangements, and attentive hospitality. The warmth and kindness of the staff made settling in effortless.

By 4 a.m. the next day, we were ready to experience the bathing rituals at the ghat. Walking was not an option amidst the throngs of devotees, VIP cars, volunteers, and bustling toto drivers. Initially, the crowd seemed overwhelming, and I wondered if it was even possible to participate. But the caregivers took charge, guiding each senior carefully down the stairs to the Ganges, ensuring a safe and peaceful bath, and escorting everyone back to the tent without stress or danger.

That evening, we shared dinner, songs, and stories, a gentle end to a day of spiritual immersion. The next morning, at 3 a.m., we departed for Delhi in three cars, aiming to avoid the heaviest crowds. Even so, the sheer number of people made the journey an extraordinary experience, a vivid reminder of the Mahakumbh’s scale and devotion. We returned to Delhi late at night, tired but fulfilled.
This journey was a unique blend of spirituality, care, and adventure. Traveling safely amidst millions of devotees, being guided at every step, and sharing the experience with fellow seniors made it truly unforgettable.
